Lee & Barb,
On behalf of the Carmel community, thank you again for all the hard work that you, the scouts, and many parents put in this morning! We really appreciate it and know that our playgrounds and campus are safer, cleaner, and prettier as a result of your awesome pack’s hard work and sweat!! You guys had an impressive turn out with approximately 40 people including adults and kids-that is particularly outstanding since it is the last weekend of summer break!! I believe the boys will have even more respect for their school and community as a result of this service project. Like I said to the group today, they will probably step up and tell someone not to litter, throw or kick mulch, etc.
I will be including an article in our August Carmel newsletter along with some pictures. In addition, I will submit the details for Town Hall and the local newspapers. If there is anything in particular you would like included in the article, please let me know including a list of all the volunteers today. I am happy to mention the Popcorn sales in the article-I would probably write something like, “It’s popcorn time for the Cub Scouts! This is their primary fundraiser for the year and your support is greatly appreciated. Please consider buying some popcorn from your favorite scout and if you do not have a favorite scout, please contact……Pack 641 at …or….Pack? at…..???”
Thank you,
Gary

It is time to get back to a normal schedule for scouts. That includes our weekly meetings start back. Tuesday the 10th we will have the American legion visiting us to teach flag etiquette. See below for details on our pack and how to join us for all the fun.
Cub Scout Pack 641 Woodstock GA You & your family are invited to join Cub Scout, Pack 641 • When: Tuesdays • Where: Bascomb United Methodist Church, Scout Hut • Time: 7:00 – 8:00 pm What is Cub Scouting? Cub Scouting means "doing." Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things. Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Many of the activities happen right in the den and pack. The most important are the weekly den meetings and the monthly pack meetings. Cub Scouts is a year-round, family-centered program where your son will have the opportunity to learn new things, make new friends, and have fun! But Cub Scouts is much more than that – it is fun with a purpose. Apart from the fun and excitement of Cub Scout activities, the Cub Scout Promise, the Law of the Pack, and the Cub Scout sign, handshake, motto, and salute all teach good citizenship and contribute to a boy's self-esteem, self confidence and a sense of belonging.
Why join Pack 641? Most of your Cub Scout’s activities are experienced within your Cub Scouts Den. Pack 641 has activities that the whole Pack will enjoy together. Listed below are just some of the activities that the Pack has planned as a group. • August - Hot Wheels Skating • September – Hike at Fort Mountain & Great Allatoona Clean Up • October - Fall Family Campout (Sloppy Floyd State Park) • November – Chattanooga Day Trip(Rock City, Lookout Mtn. and Incline Railway) • December - Christmas Party & Caroling • January - Pinewood Derby and Race clinic • February - Blue and Gold Banquet / Sweetwater State Park Hike • March – USS Yorktown Overnight • April - Spring Family Campout • May - End of School Party • June - BSA Summer Camps • July - March in 4th of July Parade - Twilight Camp
Registration Most of our budget is covered by Pop Corn Fund Raiser and donations from sponsors. Your Cub Scout’s registration fee for joining Pack 641 is $85/year. (A payment plan is available if needed) This fee helps pay for: • Registration of Scouts with the Boy Scouts of America • Unit insurance • Annual Subscription to Boys’ Life magazine • Cub Scout Handbook • Class B Uniform Shirt (T-Shirt with Pack Logo) • Awards (Belt Loops, Pins, Achievements, and Patches) • The Gold & Blue Banquet • Pinewood Derby Car • Campsite fees • Cost of Cub Scout’s admission for most activities

Help celebrate and honor the Boy Scouts of America's 100 birthday at our annual Blue & Gold Banquet advancement ceremony.
When: Saturday February 27, 2010
Where: Bascomb United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall
Invitations will be coming soon. Please include the number of people from your immediate family only (due to space limitations at the church) and if you will need child care.
There will be a sign up sheet to bring a sides (enough to feed approximately 10 people) at our next Den meeting on Tuesday February 23, 2010. The Pack will supply the meat.
If you volunteered to help, you will be getting contacted soon with details of what you can do to help. Of course we always need help setting up and cleaning up, but there are lots of decorations that need to be made before hand as well. If you haven't signed up to help, but would like to, it's not to late, just ask what you can do too.

What happens to a Scout? For every 100 boys who join Scouting, records indicate that:
RARELY will one be brought before the juvenile court system
2 will become Eagle Scouts
17 will become future Scout volunteers
12 will have their first contact with a church
1 will enter the clergy
5 will earn their church award
18 will develop a hobby that will last through their adult life
8 will enter a vocation that was learned through the merit badge system
1 will use his Scouting skills to save his own life
1 will use his Scouting skills to save the life of another person
Scouting's alumni record is equally impressive. A recent nation-wide survey of high schools revealed the following information:
85% of student council presidents were Scouts
89% of senior class presidents were Scouts
80% of junior class presidents were Scouts
75% of school publication editors were Scouts
71% of football captains were Scouts
Scouts also account for:
64% of Air Force Academy graduates
68% of West Point graduates
70% of Annapolis graduates
72% of Rhodes Scholars
85% of F.B.I. agents
26 of the first 29 astronauts
YOU CAN GIVE A CHILD TOO MUCH OF EVERYTHING EXCEPT YOURSELF
